My birth doula support services begin with a virtual interview so we can get to know each other. If we agree that we are a wonderful fit, I will meet with you again before you go into labor to discuss your thoughts and wishes about your childbirth experience. I will provide phone, text, and email support two weeks before your due date and until you deliver. I will also provide you with continuous support and care once you enter the hospital or birthing center. I will stay with you for 1-2 hours after you give birth, and I will visit with you once you have returned home with your baby to discuss your birth experience and determine any postpartum needs you might have.

Emotional Support: I provide encouragement and reassurance from the moment we begin working together before your birth, all the way to our post-partum visit.

Informational Support: I provide help for you and your family in collecting information about what labor involves and your options, as well as any other non-medical advice you seek.

Physical Support: I provide physical support in the form of comfort measures, positioning, breathing, relaxation, and other non-pharmacological pain relief measures. My coaching and support is in addition to the traditional medical support advised in childbirth.

Advocacy: I assist during labor by helping you, as a woman in labor, and your partner, communicate your wishes to the hospital staff.

Partner Support: If a spouse or partner will be joining you, I will provide support for your partner. He or she will have my support with encouragement and reassurance as you go through the labor and delivery process together.

Why is Lori a special choice?

I truly believe that I have special talents and experience to bring to my birth doula work. Spending 36 years as a mother, and now 8 years as a grandmother, has provided me with the nurturing and compassionate skills so critical to birth work. I understand, first hand, the birth journey from my direct experience birthing four children vaginally. I embrace the birth choice of each mother, and I do understand the adventure of birth.

Having two children with the chronic condition Type 1 Diabetes has provided me with a great deal of experience in medical situations. I am a communication professional, mother and grandmother who is at ease working with other labor and delivery professionals, from the nurse in the room to the midwife or obstetrician, and all those who come and go during labor and delivery. I have held mamas during their epidural and supported partners all throughout the journey. I am steady. I am professional. I am intuitive. I am calm during challenging times. I bring an added peace to the room. I will work with you to provide support that is uniquely needed for your birth journey.

I welcome the opportunity to meet you, get to know you, support you, and share your miracle of birth.
